Marlins spring training player to watch: Ryan Weathers
Ryan Weathers has a real shot at making a big impact this season, if a trade happens
The Miami Marlins are beginning Spring Training games and one player could really show he is ready for the big leagues with a solid spring. Ryan Weathers was acquired by the Miami Marlins at the trade deadline last season in a move that sent Garrett Cooper and Sean Reynolds to the Padres in exchange for Weathers. Weathers saw some action to close out the 2024 season but was in and out of AAA.
Ryan Weathers could make the Marlins bullpen more solid in 2024, or potentially more
The Marlins utilized Ryan Weathers for 13 innings last year and he posted a 6.87 ERA and was inconsistent at best. Weathers made 2 starts and his first start he only lasted 3.1 innings and gave up 5 runs to the San Diego Padres. Weathers gave up 5 hits, 5 walks, and a home run in that loss. On the flip side of the coin he made another start October 1st against the Pirates and he went 6 shutout innings giving up only 2 hits and 3 walks and gave the Marlins a real chance to win the game.
Weathers opens the Spring Training schedule for the Marlins as their starting pitcher and he could prove he is consistent this spring and have a chance at making the rotation as a potential starter. The Marlins will likely need another starter if they make a trade and Edward Cabrera is shipped off for some position players. The Marlins projected rotation is Luzardo, Perez, Garrett, Cabrera, and Rogers but if Cabrera is gone there could be an opening for Weathers. Keep an eye on how he is doing and of course keep reading here to see if any trades materialize and who will be given opportunities. Weathers either way could be a solid long relief pitcher, he has great potential which Marlins fans would love to see him blossom this year.
