The 2022 National League Cy Young winner will make his 2023 debut on MLB Opening Day when Sandy Alcantara takes the mound for the Miami Marlins when they host the New York Mets.

In what is likely the best pitching matchup of the day, Alcantara will face Max Scherzer of the Mets.

So, how should we handle this game from a betting perspective? Let's take a look at the odds and then I'll give you my best bet.

Mets vs. Marlins odds, spread, and total

Mets vs. Marlins prediction and pick

Despite the season long projections for both teams and their records last season, I think the Miami Marlins are the team to bet on in this situation.

Alcantara had a fantastic ERA of 1.64 at home last season, while Scherzer also struggled a bit on the road. Scherzer's ERA was 1.12 higher on the road in 2022 compared to at home, and that could come back to haunt him on Opening Day in Miami.

The Marlins may be a better team than you think as well. Last season, they finished 29th in close game win percentage, showing that they had some bad luck. With Alcantara pitching, and hopefully some better luck on the offensive end, they can hang with the Mets and I'm willing to wager on them pulling off the upset.

Let's ride with the underdogs.
