Miami Marlins second baseman Luis Arraez was chasing the .400 batting average mark this season. It doesn't look like it's happening anymore, though he's still batting .355 for the season. He's been worth an excellent 4.6 WAR this season and still deserves an extension from Kim Ng. While we may have to forget about that .400, how about anothe statistic? Wwhat about leading the NL in hits?

Miami Marlins second baseman Luis Arraez can still lead the National League in hits.

The race to lead the National League in hits is heating up! Luis Arraez is right in the middle of it, batting .355/.398/.456 and delivering an NL leading 169 hits. He's still having a tremendous season, and if he continues hitting he should be able to finish the season as the NL hits leader. Did I mention he's currently in the lead already?

Luis Arraez does have competition... At the top of the list is Atlanta Braves RF Ronald Acuna Jr., who is the leading NL MVP contender. Acuna is currently batting .335/.419/.568 and is tied with Arraez at 169 hits! Which one will pass the other?! There is also Acuna's former Atlanta teammate and current Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman. Freeman is currently batting .332/.410/.572, and has 163 hits.

Who will win the race to lead the National League in hits? My vote obviously goes to Luis Arraez, however it's not simply guesswork. Arraez is the best contact hitter among the three, so he has the best chance to add more hits to his already impressive record this season. Sadly, it will not help him win the National League MVP award.

Luis Arraez has the impressive aforementioned 4.6 WAR, but Ronald Acuna Jr. has a 6.5 WAR! As for Freddie Freeman, he currently stands at 5.4. Sadly, this should make both of the latter players finish ahead of Arraez in the NL MVP race. Of course you never know, if Luis Arraez goes on a really hot steeak down the stretch..... while the others start cooling off. We might see an upset winner.
