The Miami Marlins decided to make some rotation changes earlier, but it looks like the 6-man rotation will have to wait. As we patiently await the results of the playoff race, to see if The Fish can return to the playoffs for the first time since 2020... there are now injuries and related roster moves. It's quite a few moves, so let's take a look at them.

The Miami Marlins make multiple roster moves due to injuries.

In an alarming announcement, The Fish put starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara on the 15-day injured list. The reason? A right forearm flexor strain. This is definitely alarming news. Sandy first felt discomfort after his last start, which wasn't that good as well. Now we have an idea as to why. Sandy won the NL Cy Young award last season, after delivering an outstanding 2.28 ERA/2.99 FIP, with 7.4 K/9 and 2.3 BB/9 in 28 games and 184.2 innings pitched.

Sandy Alcantara wasn't as good this season, delivering a 4.14 ERA/4.03 FIP with 7.4 K/9 and 2.3 BB/9 in 28 games and 184.2 innings pitched. Hopefully this isn't a serious injury and he'll be back this season. Designated Hitter Jorge Soler is injured as well. He's going on the 10-day IL due to a right oblique strain. He's having a bounce back season, batting .240/.329/.513 with 35 home runs and 71 RBI, in 126 games and 466 AB. He might be getting extended ahead of potential free agency.

Relief pitcher Geoff Hartlieb is already gone, being designated for assignment. Hartlieb has an impressive 2.25 ERA, but an alarming 7.26 ERA with 6.8 K/9 and 6.8 B/9. It's clear that his ERA was a mirage. Taking the spots of Sandy, Hartlieb and Soler are three players. Those players include starting pitcher Edward Cabrera. I already wrote about this earlier today in fact. OF Dane Myers is now back on the team.

Dane Myers is a late-bloomer, who has batted .288/.295/.373 in 16 games and 59 AB. I have high hopes for his second call-up this season. Left-handed relief pitcher Devin Smeltzer is back up again. Smeltzer has a 5.79 ERA/6.96 FIP, with 7.2 K/9 and 1.9 BB/9, in 8 games and 18.2 innings pitched. Smeltzer has been pretty bad so far, but maybe he'll do better this time.
