The Chicago White Sox are selling off the team. They mostly focused on shipping away upcoming free agents, but there may be some long-term players getting traded as well. We said for a while now that the Miami Marlins need a middle of the order bat. It looks like there may be an actual trade target to match that description. What if The Fish acquire Eloy Jimenez from the Chicago White Sox?!

The Miami Marlins are targeting Eloy Jimenez of the Chicago White Sox.

Jorge Soler is on pace to hit 40 home runs for the Miami Marlins this season. That said, the injury-prone slugger is likely to hit free agency after the season. Does it make sense for The Fish to re-sign an aging, injury-prone, bad defender who may go back to his lousy 2022 form?! I don't see how that makes any sense.

How about adding a power bat to the lineup that will replace Jorge Soler next season as well? How about pairing Soler up with another power threat in the middle of the lineup? There is that bat and it's Eloy Jimenez of the Chicago White Sox. Eloy is very similar to Soler, as a power hitter that is known for being injury-prone. He's also known for being a bad defender...just like Soler.

There is a big difference between the two however... Eloy Jimenez is both younger and better than Soler. One such area is contact, Soler has a career .241 batting average. Eloy? .275. In fact, Eloy is currently hitting .285/.330/.477, with 13 home runs and 47 RBI in 71 games and 277 AB . He's a legitimate power hitter with good contact. That's not a very common skillset to acquire.

It's important to add that the Chicago White Sox are not actively shopping Eloy Jimenez. He's not actually a free agent until after the 2026 season. Both the 2025 and 2026 seasons are also covered by team options. There's no good reason for them to trade him, other than if they're going for a total rebuild. If they do however, the Miami Marlins will be one of the teams making trade offers.
