Do you remember the 1997 and 2003 World Series winning Miami Marlins teams? We can celebrate those historic Mia... well actually Florida Marlins teams once again! On August 2, you can join me for the celebration of the 2003 team during the game between the Miami Marlins and the Philadelphia Phillies here in Miami. I'll be at the game myself and am excited to get the replica 2003 World Series winning ring. There is also another way that the Miami Marlins are planning to celebrate the historic anniversary...
The Miami Marlins ae bringing back old teal Florida Marlins uniforms.
The old Florida Marlins uniforms are coming back....for Fridays only at least and five of them at the minimum. This is exciting news as these are popular classic uniforms, and it's going to be fun to see players from the current generation wear them. It's especially meaningful considering the 20 year anniversary of that historic 2003 team. Former player and now special assistant to owner Bruce Sherman Jeff Conine had this to say:
"I think moving forward, we're going to do a lot better at glorifying this franchise and celebrating what we've done over 30 years, and I think this year is going to be a great kickoff point.
We're going to do a lot of stuff -- like we said in the announcement, just having alumni come back, and we're wearing the teal on select Fridays, and having special guests throughout the year that celebrate this franchise. There's so many great players that have played here and gone on to maybe do great things in other places, but they played in Florida, so we've got to make special note of that."
This is exciting news and it's awesome that Jeff Conine is pushing for nostalgia at this time. Perhaps the 2003 team's nostalgia can help fuel a run for the 2023 team. Actual dates for games and announcements at which the former players will show up haven't been made yet. Once the announcements are made, we will be sure to report them here at Marlin Maniac. This is very exciting news!
