The Miami Marlins had a strong draft a few weeks ago. The team already signed top draft pick Noble Meyer and now The Fish signed another draft pick in Thomas White. This is great news, as many fans don't realize that drafting a player is just part of the whole story. The next part is actually signing them to a contract. There's been times in the past when even top draft picks refused to sign with teams that drafted them.

The Miami Marlins signed another draft pick.

Here's our breakdown of Miami Marlins #35 draft pick Thomas White. Thomas is a big guy at 6'5 and 210 pounds. He has a good fastball that can get to the mid-90's in mph, and could probably get more effective with more development in the Minor Leagues. He actually won the Gatorade player of the year award in both 2022 and 2023 in Massachusetts. White had a phenomenal 0.21 ERA in his senior year by the way. Adding an elite strikeout rate to the total, you can see why he was coveted by scouts going into the draft.

There is definitely more development needed, but thee seems to be quite a lot of promise for Thomas White going forward. He still needs to improve his curveball, as so far he just has a fastball and a changeup. I suspect he can ultimately end up in the bullpen unless he makes the necessary changes. That said, scouts believe that h has top of the rotation potential. White is turning 19 years old in a few months, so he's very young. As a high school pitcher, he can be seen as a gamble though.

Thomas White was seen by talent evaluators as a first round talent, so it was definitely surprising that The Fish were able to get him with the 35'th pick. He was valued at $2,420,900, so in a bit of surprising news he ended up agreeing to a deal for 4,100,000. I'm not sure why that happened, but it sounds that the team was very high on him and he might've been looking for more money.
