Miami Marlins in trade conversations with Orioles and 2 pitchers names are part of the conversation
Will the Marlins part ways with one star?
The Miami Marlins have a surplus of arms that would make other teams jealous but they lack position player depth. As a result of their surplus, teams like the Baltimore Orioles who need pitchers are in trade talks with the Marlins. As reported by John Morosi, the Orioles are in pursuit of a pitcher and are talking with both the Chicago White Sox and the Miami Marlins about acquiring a pitcher.
The Orioles and Marlins are a perfect trade pair
The Baltimore Orioles want to add an arm and as Morosi commented, he would be surprised if they don’t add an arm before opening day. As we have mentioned prior, the Orioles are a potential trade partner as they have complimentary surplus and needs. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Edward Cabrera as the major point of conversation for the Marlins side and Morosi said both Cabrera and Luzardo are part of the conversation.
The few options the Orioles could supply to the Marlins are catcher, shortstop or potentially outfield. The Orioles have several intriguing players the Marlins could acquire and infield is a likely target for Miami as they need to fill the starting shortstop position.
The Orioles currently have seven players on their 40 man roster who play infield, and some great options. Jordan Westburg is one we have mentioned as a good choice, Jorge Mateo, and Joey Ortiz could all be in play as the Orioles top prospect Jackson Holliday ran through the minor league system and looks to join the big club in 2024.
The Orioles also have an embarrassment of riches in the Outfield with 8 players on their 40 man roster. The Orioles 2nd and 3rd ranked prospects Colton Cowser and Heston Kjerstad are two big outfield names and are waiting in the wings. The Orioles already have Austin Hays, Sam Hilliard, Cedric Mullins, and Anthony Santander. The Orioles could move one of those names to make room for Cowser.
The Marlins could potentially swing a trade for Westburg, Mateo, or Ortiz, and an outfielder for Cabrera but it wouldn’t be a high profile outfielder unless the Marlins added another player to the trade. I could see a Cabrera and Patrick Monteverde trade for a shortstop and quality outfielder. That would provide the Orioles a starting pitcher and a minor league prospect arm as well for the future. The Orioles are the best trade partner for the Marlins but can Peter Bendix make a trade work for the Marlins long and short term benefits that the Orioles will agree to?
