Miami Marlins injury news
There are new injury news coming about the Miami Marlins! Earlier today I talked about Johnny Cueto's terrible start last night. I also wrote about how the opening series against the New York Mets has been disappointing, and broke down the concerns and the bad performances. Now is the fallout from the last couple of days, with the revelation that several of the players are injured and will be going on the injured list.
The Miami Marlins placed multiple players on the injured list.
The aforementioned Johnny Cueto apparently has right biceps tightness. This potentially explains his terrible performance last night. He currently has an unsightly 36.00 ERA/32.27 FIP with 0.0 K/9 and 0.0 BB/9 for the season. Will the 37 year old be better when he comes off the 15-day IL? I'm not as optimistic to be honest. Braxton Garrett has been called back up after a poor performance earlier this season. He has a 6.00 ERA/6.94 FIP with 3.0 K/9 and 0.0 BB/9 so far in 2023. He was much better last season, delivering a 3.58 ERA/3.56 FIP with 9.2 K/9 and 2.5 BB/9 in 17 games and 88.0 innings pitched.
Another Miami Marlins player placed on the injured list is SS Joey Wendle. Wendle has been placed on the 10-day IL with a right intercostal strain. He batted .259/.297/.360 in 101 games and 347 AB last season. This season he's batting .000/.111/.000 in 4 games and 8 AB. Replacing him on the active roster is IF/OF Garrett Hampson. The versatile IF/OF batted .211/.287/.307 in 90 games and 199 AB last season with the Colorado Rockies. The 28 year old is a career .235/.296/.370 hitter.
RP Jeff Lindgren is already gone as well. He was never particularly good in the Minors, and now finds himself designated for assignment after posting a 7.20 ERA/5.07 FIP with 0.0 K/9 and 5.4 BB/9 in a game and 5.0 innings in his lone appearance last night. LHP Daniel Castano is up to take his place. He had a 4.04 ERA/4.74 FIP with 5.0 K/9 and 2.3 BB/9 in 10 games and 35.2 innings pitched for the Miami Marlins last season.
