A call-up recently made a major impact on the Miami Marlins. Connor Norby has made a big impact on the team and looks to be a long-term solution at third base. Now, The Fish are making another promotion. It's definitely possible that The Fish's farm will finally help build the next contending team. Let's take a look at the new call-up and see what he brings to the table.

Griffin Conine has been promoted by the Miami Marlins.

Griffin Conine appears to be a late-bloomer. The lefty hitting RF is already 27 years old and assuming that he sticks in the Major Leagues, would be under arbitration control deep into his 30's. It does appear that he might not be looked at as a starting player. Reports indicate that he's most likely to be used as a backup OF/DH for more depth.

Conine has been in AAA Jacksonville this season and he's been doing pretty well there. He's batting .268/.350/.475, with 19 home runs and 68 RBI in 112 games and 385 AB. That's pretty solid production and makes me wonder if he can't potentially somehow win the starting job in say LF.

Kyle Stowers is currently batting just .136/.230/.152, with 0 home runs and 3 RBI in 22 games and 66 AB for the Miami Marlins. He's been worth an atrocious -0.7 WAR and his 87.3 EV isn't exactly flying off the charts either. Is it possible that Conine could challenge Stowers for the starting job in LF? Interestingly, Stowers can be called a late-bloomer himself at 26 years old.

I'm interested in seeing what Conine can do at the Major League level. I really wonder if he has it in him to challenge for a starting spot. At the very least, this should encourage Kyle Stowers to improve and focus on proving that he can be a core piece. It will be fun to see if Stowers and Conine will actually compete for the starting job, as for whatever reason this is something that I'm genuinely predicting for the next few weeks.

The Miami Marlins promoting Griffin Conine is a good move and we'll find out if he'll really just be a backup, or if he can surprise us.
