Miami Marlins make one more roster move
This weekend saw the Miami Marlins making some claims. As it turns out, Peter Bendix was hardly done when he made yet another claim. This time he claimed LHP John McMillon from the Kansas City Royals. With all the trades getting all of the attention, it will be funny to see a claim make the biggest impact. Even if it's highly unlikely.
The Miami Marlins claimed John McMillion from Kansas City.
Let's get a couple of things out of the way first, claiming a waived player is a great low-risk way to add talent and depth to the team's roster. Making such moves may not seem like a big deal, but you'd be surprised how some seemingly irrelevant moves can make the biggest difference down the line. Obviously it happens rarely, but no one ever knows when it actually will.
This gets us to the the Miami Marlins claiming John McMiillon from the Kansas City Royals. McMillon is a 26 year old righty who was a 21'st round pick from 2016. Before you logically roll your eyes, let me tell you that he definitely has some potential. The young pitcher has a 2.25 ERA/2.51 FIP, with 18.0 K/9 and 0.0 BB/9 in 4 games and 4.0 innings pitched this season. I'm genuinely surprised why Kansas City were so quick to risk losing him, and then losing him.
We're talking about a very small sample size and his lack of draft pedigree and long-term track record are notable for sure. That said, as I said earlier the numbers look good and what if he can keep up this production? Or even improve upon it?! Even if he declines a bit, he has the makings of a very good relief pitcher. All of his production came as a relief pitcher in case I didn't make it clear before.
Once again, what does the future look here? I will keep my optimism low, but at the same time hold some hope for a pitcher who has been surprisingly very good in a very small sample size. I wonder if Peter Bendix has more moves for us?
