The Miami Marlins made changes to the pitching rotation, and made some bullpen changes as well. The Fish made some more roster moves today, so let's go over them and see how they will affect the team going forward. As The Fish try to make a push for the playoffs, every seemingly minor move can have a big effect in a tight race.

The Miami Marlins made some roster moves again.

Relief pitcher JT Chargois has been placed on the 15-day injured list. Chargois is a 32 year old righty, who currently has a 3.68 ERA/3.75 FIP, with 7.4 K/9 and 3.7 BB/9 in 31 games and 29.1 innings pitched. The walk rate is a bit high, and the strikeouts are just OK. That said, he's effective enough as a middle reliever that it's a hit tot he team to be without him. This placement is retroactive to August 4.

Another relief pitcher has been designated for assignment. That pitcher? Devin Smeltzer. Smeltzer currently has a 5.79 ERA/6.97 FIP, with 7.2 K/9 and 1.9 BB/9 in 8 games and 18.2 innings pitched. Smeltzer is a 27 year old lefty, who has been not quite effective to say the least. This is the third time that he's being designated in such a way, so he just might be back at some point this season. He can be outrighted to the Minor Leagues if he's not claimed on waivers.

Who is replacing Devin Smeltzer and JT Chargois on the Major League roster? The Miami Marlins called Huascar Brazoban right back up. The 33 year old late bloomer has a 4.13 ERA/3.90 FIP, with 9.1 K/9 and 4.5 BB/9 in 45 games and 52.1 innings pitched. Brazoban has a good strikeout rate, but has always had issues with his control. I'm not ecstatic over his return, but am hopeful for better results this time around from him.

The other player called up by the Miami Marlins is newly acquired lefty Ryan Weathers. Weathers has a career 5.73 ERA/5.53 FIP, with 6.5 K/9 and 3.2 BB/9 in 43 games and 143.0 innings pitched. This season he has a 6.25 ERA/5.80 FIP, with 5.8 K/9 and 3.4 BB/9 in 12 games and 44.2 innings pitched for the San Diego Padres. Let's hope for better results from him with The Fish.
