Today saw the Miami Marlins make a couple of transactions. The opening series against the New York Mets has been really disappointing and came with some concerns. I hope that this is just a minor setback, and that The Fish will do significantly better in the next series, but realistically I have to be concerned. Today The Fish made changes, with the idea that these moves will help improve the roster going forward.

The Miami Marlins made roster moves today.

RHP Jeff Lindgren has been called up from the Minor Leagues. Lindgren will be receiving his first call-up. He has a career 3.75 ERA with 8.8 K/9 and 3.3 BB/9 there since 2016. Last season he delivered a 4.68 ERA with 7.6 K/9 and 3.5 B/9 in a combined 136.2 innings pitched in both AAA and AA. He actually pitched worse in AAA, so I'm a little bit unclear why calling him up to the Majors is a good idea right now. Lindgren will be in the bullpen.

Fellow relief pitcher Nic Enright has been transferred to the 60-day injured list. This IL designation helped allow Lindgren to be placed on the 40-man roster. Enright has neve rpitched in the Majors before, and has an impressive 2.80 ERA with 12.8 K/9 and 2.2 BB/9 throughout his Minor League Career. Just as Lindgren, Enright happens to be a right handed pitcher. Will either one end up making an impact for the Miami Marlins at some point? Maybe. I'm not sure if Enright will make a difference, but am open-minded enough to hope for the best.

The bigger move for the Miami Marlins, has been the optioning of long reliever Braxton Garrett down to the Minors. Braxton was competing for a rotation job this Spring, but ultimately was unable to win it, however he still ended up receiving a spot in the bullpen. Garrett had an impressive 3.58 ERA/3.56 FIP with 9.2 K/9 and 2.5 BB/9 in 17 games and 88 innings last season. This season, he only pitched in 1 game for 3 innings as a reliever, and delivered a 6.00 ERA/6.88 FIP with 3.0 K/9 and 0.00 BB/9. I'm sure that we will see him again this season.
