Miami Marlins notes: Jesus Luzardo; All-Star Game
Some notes on The Fish this week
There's little positive about the Miami Marlins this season. The team has been terrible this season and at this point the attention is entirely on the Trade Deadline. Luckily, there's some All-Star Game news and sadly some injury news on a starting pitcher. Let's take a look at some Fish news on this Wednesday morning.
Some important Miami Marlins notes on a pitcher and the All-Star Game.
The All-Star Game is coming up next month and we now know some early voting results. The leading vote-getters in both leagues are New York Yankees CF Aaron Judge in the American League, and Philadelphia Phillies 1B Bryce Harper for the National League. It's not much of a surprise, with Judge being the likely leader for the AL MVP award and Harper being the likely frontrunner for the NL MVP award.
It may not be much of a surprise, but no Miami Marlins players, are leading in the vote for any position or are even in the top in the running. A former Marlins player is in the running for the second base starting job in the NL. That being San Diego Padres DH Luis Arraez. It's sad to see no Fish players represented, but it's mostly based on the team's record.
In other news, it turned out that starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo was pitching through a stiff back, in the team's loss to the Washington Nationals on Sunday. That's disappointing as he already spent time with an injury earlier this season. I'm hoping that he won't need an IL stint and that he'll be better in his next start. That next start is expected to be this Saturday against the Seattle Mariners. I'm definitely not excited about that series, as they're currently leading their division.
Jesus Luzardo has been having a pretty bad season. He currently has a 5.00 ERA/4.25 FIP, with 7.8 K/9 and 3.0 BB/9 in 12 games and 66.2 innings pitched. It's not a typical season for him and it does seem as if bad health has been the culprit for this performance.
