I've written about Miami Marlins pitcher Sixto Sanchez recently, and he's been a complete disaster this season. There's more information on him now. We also saw yet another poor performance from a disappointing fellow starting pitcher Trevor Rogers. It's time to start off the week with more news about The Fish...
Miami Marlins starting pitching issues continue with two certain pitchers.
Sixto Sanchez has been having a dreadful return to the Major Leagues. He's been worth a -0.6 WAR, while pitching to a 6.06 ERA/4.71 FIP, with just 4.3 K/9 and a below average 3.5 BB/9, in 14 games (7 starts) and 35.2 innings pitched. It's true that Sixto hasn't pitched in the Major Leagues since 2020, so it is possible that he's still rusty. It does however feel like time has to be running out considering his poor starts. Maybe he'll never be the same again.
Sixto is now going on the 15-day IL due to inflammation in his throwing shoulder. His velocity was down in his last start, and he has a history of shoulder issues. At this point, there doesn't seem to be much reason for The Fish to hold on to him. Sadly, he can no longer be trusted to stay healthy and productive. He also never should've been allowed to return to starting. RHP Emmanuel Ramirez has been called up to replace him on the Major League roster.
The 29 year old Ramirez debuted this season and has a 1.59 ERA/1.38 FIP, with 7.9 K/9 and 0.0 BB/9 in 5 games and 5.2 innings pitched. It's a promising but small sample size. In other news, Trevor Rogers continues to have poor starts. He's now sitting on a 5.68 ERA/4.56 FIP, with 7.4 K/9 and 4.3 BB/9, in 12 games and 57.0 innings pitched.
Trevor Rogers is looking at an arbitration raise over his $1.5 millions salary for next season. I'm becoming increasingly sure that he may be pitching his way out of Miami. It's a shame that like Sixto health has kept him from replicating his once promising potential. He looked like a legitimate top of the rotation arm only three years ago.
