Miami Marlins part ways with a pitcher
Today was not a good day for the Miami Marlins. The Fish lost to the Atlanta Braves and starting pitcher Eury Pérez was terrible. If there's a silver lining, it's that the team is trying to keep him on an innings limit. The fact that he only pitched 0.1 innings is definitely helping with that plan. Don't worry this article is not about Eury, it's about Archie Bradley., who The Fish just designated for assignment. At least The Fish swept the Boston Red Sox.
The Miami Marlins designated relief pitcher Archie Bradley for assignment.
Archie Bradley was once a top pitching prospect for the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was supposed to be a future ace for the team, but that didn't really work out as they wanted. In 2015-2016 as a starting pitcher, he had a 5.18 ERA/4.27 FIP, with 8.4 K/9 and 4.5 BB/9 in 34 games and 177.1 innings pitched. The control was bad and the ERA clearly was an issue too. The FIP was intriguing, but Arizona didn't feel that there was much hope in him as a starting pitcher.
Arizona converted him to a relief pitcher for the 2017 season. In the 2017-2019 seasons, Archie Bradley delivered a 2.95 ERA/3.24 FIP, with 10.0 K/9 and 3.2 BB/9 in 205 games and 216.1 innings pitched. He was now an elite reliever and even spent some time as the team's closer. He even had 18 saves in that 2019 season. Bradley split 2020 between Arizona and the Cincinnati Reds. He had a 2.95 ERA/2.59 FIP in 18.1 innings pitched.
Bradley spent 2021-2022 with the Philadelphia Phillies and the Los Angeles Angels. He delivered a 4.00 ERA/4.07 FIP, with 7.1 K/9 and 3.7 BB/9 in 74 games and 69.2 innings pitched. It was unfortunate, but he was no longer an elite reliever, just as fast as he's become one. Things haven't been much better this season, he has a 12.27 ERA in 4 games and 7.1 innings pitched. It's such a terrible performance, that the righty has been designated for assignment and will probably not be used again this season.
