Miami Marlins payroll compared to other Major League teams

Did you ever wonder how the Miami Marlins payroll compare to other teams? For years now I've been calling for The Fish to spend on the team. I wanted MLB to even step in if a team in the Miami market can't afford to truly spend. Spending is not a guarantee of winning, but it certainly doesn't hurt. You at least have to do that to keep your stars after they're about to hit free agency.

The Miami Marlins are behind a lot of teams financially.

I'm rounding the numbers here and I'll start with the NL East just for a more accurate comparison. The New York Mets have the highest payroll not just in the division, but also in the Majors. Their payroll is $318 million. Oh boy. By the way, the New York Yankees have a $309 million payroll and are in second place.

The Philadelphia Phillies are fourth with a $247 million payroll. That's another high payroll and ironically enough is followed right after by the payroll of the Atlanta Braves. They're at $236 million in sixth place, with the Los Angeles Dodgers in between in fifth place. LA is at $239 million. The Washington Nationals are all the way down in 24'th place. They're at $106 million.

So where are the Miami Marlins? The Fish are in 27'th place with $98 million. 27'th place. This is really not acceptable for the Miami market. This is the same market that had the best basketball player in the world at one point. Do you remember when the NBA's Miami Heat signed LeBron James? That was huge. Remember the time when the Heat made the NBA Finals every year with what was basically an All-Star team?

The Miami Marlins should not be a low payroll team. The Fish should e at least in the top 15 of teams. Somewhere in the middle is simply more acceptable than this. I hope that when the next contending team is formed, the payroll will rise accordingly. It's simply not acceptable to be any other way than that. Time will tell.
