Miami Marlins pitcher's rivals for a prestigious award
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo has been nominated for a prestigious award. The award that I'm talking about is of course the Roberto Clemente award. The award for players who make a major impact on their communities, and the world at large with their philanthropic endeavors. As the team is figuring out who will be key players next season, let's look at who is his main competition.
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo has some competition.
Jesus Luzardo will hopefully win the Roberto Clemente award this season, but he has steep competition. There's a rival from every team, but I'll focus on the strongest candidates. With that in mind, I want to start with a former Miami Marlins player. That player is none other than Minnesota Twins Starting Pitcher Pablo Lopez.
Pablo is a major supporter of three different charities. The charities are "Ruff Start Rescue" (dog rescue), "Children's Minnesota" (health care for kids) and "Twins Community Fund' (helping kids). Pablo clearly cares about doing his part to help the community and that is something that will be taken into consideration by the voters.
Another contender is none other than Los Angeles Dodgers RF Mookie Betts. Betts has contributed over $300,000 to the "Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation" to feed starving families. He also created the "Betts on Us" fund with the UCLA Children's Hospital, as well as worked with the "5050 Foundation" to help high school students with financial literacy. He also partnered with the Crete Academy to bring 700 kids to Dodgers games.
Houston Astros RF Kyle Tucker is another major candidate. He started the "Kyle Tucker Foundation" to help non-profit healthcare centers gain recognition and receive support. He also celebrates hospice workers with awards and hosts a Topgolf event for charity. He donated $50,000 to a Houston family that are fans of him and the team and is dealing with cancer. He also gave them a surprise trip to the All-Star Game this year.
It would be an honor for Miami Marlins starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo to win the award, but the competition is steep.
