The Miami Marlins made some headlines earlier today with some big trade deadline news. Of course, the dadline is still a few weeks away. The MLB draft is coming up and some mocks give us an idea of what to expect there. In the meantime, The Fish have a big series with the Philadelphia Phillies starting tonight and made some moves. Let's take a quick look at what has been done...

The Miami Marlins promoted another relief pitcher to the bullpen.

Sean Reynolds has been called up to the Major League roster. The right-handed relief pitcher is 25 years old and has actually been drafted in 2016 as a hitter. He was a first baseman and right fielder at the time, but ended up being converted into a relief pitcher. The reason why he was converted was him not doing particularly well as a hitter.

The conversion to pitching in 2021 worked very well, as he produced a 3.09 ERA at the single A level. In 2022, Reynolds started the season at the A level, but then was promoted to the AA level. He delivered a 4.13 ERA in 52 1/3 innings pitched, along with a 29.6% strikeout percentage.

Sean Reynolds was actually eligible for the Rule 5 draft in 2022, but the Miami Marlins gave him a 40 man roster spot to protect him from it. He started this season in AA, but was promoted to the AAA level and delivered a 2.66 ERA in 40 2/3 innings pitched. He has a 27.8% strikeout rate to add to his impressive results.

Reynolds hasn't rated as highly on prospect lists unfortunately. He's the #28 prospect in The Fish's system according to Baseball America. Reynolds's fastball is an impressive 96 mph and can even get up to triple digits. He also has a curveball and changeup, but both are reportedly in need of some improvement. This of course makes him more of a one-pitch pitcher, but we'll see if he can potentially improve his secondary pitches.

Did I mention that Sean Reynolds is 6'8? There's a lot of potential for him to improve, and he could become a shutdown reliever at some point
