The Miami Marlins called up prospect Dane Myers in the wake of the Jazz Chisholm injury to fill the need for another outfielder. As is typical, Myers didn’t see the field in his first game he was called up. Myers was finally able to see the field after starting centerfielder Jonathan Davis suffered an injury.
Marlins prospect Dane Myers did not disappoint in his abbreviated action for his first career game. Myers went two for three and drove in one run and scored twice himself as a part of the Marlins rout of the Cardinals. Myers was a part of the 19 hit onslaught and it gave him a great start to his career.
Myers has been on fire this season between both AA and AAA Jacksonville, hitting .335 combined with 13 home runs and 46 RBI and 16 stolen bases. Myers in fact, went off in Jacksonville. In 20 games he hit 6 home runs and drove in 21 RBI while hitting .440 and posting a 1.201 OPS. Fans are looking forward to seeing more from the 27 year old prospect who was drafted out of Rice in the 6th round of the 2017 draft.
CF Jonathan Davis Injury
Jonathan Davis got injured in the top of the fifth inning after an attempt to catch a ball to center field. Davis' injury looks to be serious and he was carted off the field. The Miami Herald reports that his X-Rays came back negative so more evaluation is likely coming in the days ahead.
In the meantime Dane Myers has the opportunity to win the starting job in center with no real centerfielders on the roster. More movement is expected today to add some depth to the roster to support the outfield issues, and we will update as soon as we know more. As for now Dane Myers seems to have a near ideal situation to prove he belongs on the Miami Marlins roster.
