Now that the MLB All-Star game is in the rear-view mirror, the Miami Marlins can place their full focus on the upcoming Trade Deadline. Our friends at Fansided's Rising Apple New York Mets site recently published a trade proposal sending All-Star reliever Tanner Scott to the NL East rival Mets in exchange for one of Ronny Mauricio or Brett Baty, Wilfredo Lara, and a non-top-30 prospect.

While it is seldom the case to find agreeable mock trades, I give my full endorsement to this mutually beneficial trade. The landing spot seems perfect for Scott, who would immediately provide stability to an injury-plagued Mets bullpen as they push for a 2024 postseason spot.

If incumbent closer Edwin Diaz struggles with injury or inconsistency during his first season back from a gruesome right knee injury, Scott is more than capable of locking down the 9th inning. Otherwise, his dazzling 1.34 ERA would make him one of the league's most dangerous setup men. This would also allow players like Adam Ottavino and Jake Diekman to assume lesser roles, taking pressure off the whole bullpen as they await the return of Reid Garrett and Sean Reid-Foley.

Trading the clubs' lone All-Star will sting. However, the 29-year-old Scott unfortunately does not fit the Marlins' rebuild timeline. Landing a centerpiece like Mauricio or Baty would be an excellent return.

Personally, I would hedge toward the 23-year-old Mauricio, who was electric during a short, 101 at-bat, stint in the majors in 2023. He is recovering from an ACL tear that will cost him the entirety of the 2024 campaign. Yet, the right-handed batter seems to possess a unique combination of speed and power.

For what it's worth, Baty also represents a solid package of prospect pedigree, solid batting skills, and power upside. While he struggled in his first stints in the majors, there is no reason to shy away from the former first-round draft pick.

The context here does matter. Miami has long been starved of truly talented batters. Mauricio boasts a Jazz Chisholm-like electricity that could develop into a staple of the next-generation Marlins.

The addition of Lara and an unnamed, low-level, prospect are little more than throw-ins. However, the Lara does have a solid reputation as a super-utility bat with good athleticism. He can play proficient defense anywhere on the diamond other than pitcher and catcher. While his bat is very much a work in progress, Lara could develop into a usable bench player in the majors.

Marlin Maniac and Rising Apple agree on this Tanner Scott deal! Let's see if the real-world Marlins and Mets can make some magic before the trade deadline.
