The Miami Marlins made another roster move by signing relief pitcher Enrique Burgos to a Minor League deal with a Spring Training invite. This is another depth signing by The Fish, who have been busy making blockbuster trades and making positional changes in recent weeks. Having more pitching depth is vital for teams to keep themselves ready for injuries during the season, and is a good way to potentially hit on some breakout or bounce back candidates at a low cost. Let's look at Burgos...

The Miami Marlins signed Enrique Burgos to a Minor League deal.

Enrique Burgos is a 32 year old right handed relief pitcher who debuted in 2015 as a 24 year old with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He produced a 4.67 ERA/2.87 FIP with 13.0 K/9 and 5.0 BB/9 in 30 games and 27.0 innings pitched that season. The FIP and strikeout rate were very impressive, though he was also very unlucky with his ERA, and the walk rate was pretty high. There was definite potential there however.

In 2016, the now 25 year old was still pitching for the Arizona Diamondbacks, and this time he produced a 5.66 ERA/4.38 FIP with 9.4 K/9 and 5.0 BB/9 in 43 games and 41.1 innings pitched. The strikeout rate got worse but was still phenomenal. The walk rate remained the same and the FIP and ERA both declined. The potential was still there however due to the high number of strikeouts. The following year he was purchased (yes purchased), by the Atlanta Braves for an undisclosed amount.

After that Enrique Burgos was sadly not seen in a Major League game until he will presumably return in 2023 with the Miami Marlins. That is looking as a pretty intriguing comeback for a pitcher that had a lot of potential when he first arrived on the scene with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He will now be getting another opportunity to produce and potentially even improve on his previous results.

Is signing Enrique Burgos a good move for the Miami Marlins? I think so. He's a Minor League depth signing so he isn't expensive and based on the strikeout rate, might potentially take another step forward.
