The Miami Marlins already lost starting pitcher Johnny Cueto to injury and now are losing another one. Trevor Rogers has left forearm tightness and is likely headed for the injured list. It definitely may be time for The Fish to look at acquiring more pitching depth. We don't know yet if Trevor is seriously injured, and how long he will be out for. We can however start worrying about the team's pitching depth.

Miami Marlins starting pitcher Trevor Rogers may be seriously injured.

Trevor Rogers had an interesting career trajectory with the Miami Marlins. He didn't seem like anything special when he debuted in 2020, and produced a 6.11 ERA/4.33 FIP with 12.5 K/9 and 4.2 BB/9 in 28.0 innings pitched. The FIP and the K/9 were promising, but the rest didn't really excite that much. Rogers of course turned the corner in 2021, with a 2.64 ERA/2.55 FIP and 10.6 K/9 and 3.1 BB/9 in 133.0 innings pitched.

Trevor Rogers looked like a legit ace in 2021 and it appeared that The Fish had another ace to headline the rotation. Unfortunately, Trevor took a massive step back in 2022 with a 5.47 ERA/4.35 FIP with 8.9 K/9 and 4.8 BB/9 in 107.0 innings pitched. As it turned out, back issues played a major part in that. This was punctuated by Trevor pitching much better after seemingly being healed.

This season the expectations weren't particularly high for Trevor Rogers. In the 4 games and 18.0 innings pitched so far this season, he has a 4.00 ERA/4.16 FIP with 9.5 K/9 and 3.0 BB/9. He was particularly impressive in his final two starts. It really looked like Trevor was finally back to his 2021 form. It's definitely a shame if we don't get to see him pitching again for a while.

So what now? Left forearm tightness is hardly a promising condition, when it comes to fast recoveries. The worst immediately comes to mind... is it possible that he has UCL damage? Could he need Tommy John surgery? Those may be extreme possibilities, but it's hard to stay optimistic. As we wait for the prognosis, let's just hope that he will be fine as soon as possible.
