As we ponder a former player's HOF case. The Miami Marlins will be welcoming back starting pitcher Ryan Weathers tonight. With some breakout bats on the team, it will be interesting to see if The Fish can actually win this series with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Fish already won 11-9 yesterday. The question is whether Weathers can be effective in his first start back from injury. He will face Shohei Ohtani and the rest of the team tonight.

Ryan Weathers will return to the mound for the Miami Marlins tonight.

Ryan Weathers has been a great find for the Miami Marlins. The seventh round pick of the San Diego Padres in the 2018 draft, he never truly lived up to the prospect pedigree with his former team. In 2021-2022 with the team, he pitched to a 5.49 ERA/5.42 FIP, with 6.9 K/9 and 3.1 BB/9 in 31 games and 98.1 innings pitched. He also pitched for the team for 12 games and 44.2 innings pitched in 2023. He pitched to a 6.25 ERA/5.78 FIP, with 5.8 K/9 and 3.4 BB/9 in 12 games and 44.2 innings pitched.

Traded to the Miami Marlins for the rest of the 2023 season, he pitched to a disappointing 7.62 ERA/6.87 FIP, with 9.7 K/9 and 8.3 BB/9 in 3 games and 13.0 innings pitched. It was the 2024 season that saw Weathers finally break out. This season, he pitched to a 3.55 ERA/3.93 FIP in 13 games and 71.0 innings pitched. He also has 8.5 K/9 and 2.5 BB/9. This finally has him look like a legitimate mid-rotation starter, with potential to be more than a #3 type starter as his ceiling.

How will Ryan Weathers do tonight? Realistically, this isn't a good situation for him in his return to the mound. The Los Angeles Dodgers have a good offense and will test him quite a bit. It will definitely be fun to see if the Miami Marlins can win again and if Weathers can deliver a solid performance. He certainly has the stuff and the ability to do so at least.
