The Miami Marlins are very likely going to the playoffs. Chances of a deep playoff run are heavily dependent on having an elite rotation. Something that The Fish are very well capable of. Yes, the team could use another power bat, but having the entire rotation healthy and productive is the most important thing for this team. This brings us to injured former ace Trevor Rogers. When will he be back? We finally have some news.
Trevor Rogers may not return to the Miami Marlins rotation for a while.
Trevor Rogers was not really special in 2020. He delivered a 6.11 ERA/4.33 FIP with 12.5 K/9 and 4.2 BB/9 in 7 games and 28.0 innings pitched. The strikeout rate was elite and the FIP was pretty promising. The ERA and the walk rate were however leaving a lot to be desired. How did Trevor follow that up? In 2021, he delivered a 2.64 ERA/2.55 FIP, with 10.6 K/9 and 3.1 BB/9 in 25 games and 133.0 innings pitched.
Trevor Rogers was an elite starting pitcher in 2022, and legitimately looked like a dominant ace. Unfortunately, he could not follow that up in subsequent seasons. In 2022, he produced a 5.47 ERA/4.35 FIP with 8.9 K/9 and 3.8 BB/9. He also delivered these results in 23 games and 107.0 innings pitched. This was an extremely disappointing follow-up, though one that came with injury concerns.
This season Trevor Rogers delivered a 4.00 ERA/4.10 FIP, with 9.5 K/9 and 3.0 BB/9 in 4 games and 18.0 innings pitched. Trevor has been considerably better this season and was even elite in his last few starts. Trevor has once again been injured.
When will Trevor Rogers return to the mound for the Miami Marlins? Rogers has a partial tear in his right lat, which is an odd injury for a left-handed starting pitcher. He admitted that it's a rare injury for left-handed starting pitchers such as him. At the moment, he is waiting to find out when he can continue training for his big return to the team. Unfortunately, we don't know when that will be.
