The Miami Marlins have just finished the team's part in the 2024 MLB Draft. Let's hope that Peter Bendix knows what he's doing and that big mistakes can be avoided. Did you see who The Fish have drafted? You can look up every prospect, but here I'll analyze the remaining ones that I'm yet to do.
Who did the Miami Marlins draft and how do they look?
Drafted at #214, RHP Nick Brink was a very interesting selection. The 6'2 22 year old has alarmingly already went through the Tommy John Surgery procedure. Brink is more about having intriguing stuff than having anything elite. That's a worrying profile in my book, but I'm trying to be optimistic here. At #244 is OF Jacob Jenkins-Cowart from East Carolina.
Jacob Jenkins-Cowart. He has promising power according to scouts, and has been compared to former All-tar Hunter Pence. That's an exciting comparison, but he's also a distant enough prospect that I'm just not fully excited or convinced. Scouting reports point out that he needs to work on his offense.
At #274 the Miami Marlins drafted 3B Dub Gleed. The 21 year old is known for "punishing fastballs" and having a very good swing. I'm very hopeful that these reports will be accurate. Who went at #304? 3B Michael Snyder from Oklahoma. The former Oklahoma Sooner has serious potential with the bat, but as with all further away from the top of the draft picks, optimism has to be a bit muted.
Guess who went at #334? RHP Jack Faherty from Arizona. Here's some intriguing information about him. I live by the adage "There's no such thing as a pitching prospect". With someone as far away from the top of the draft as him, I just can't expect or even be optimistic about much success. C Conor Caskenette went at #364, SS Cody Schrier at #394. Schrier has intriguing contact ability from the right side. At #424 is SS Cam Clayton from Washington. AT #454 is C Coen Niclai. At 3484 is 1B Eric Rataczak.
The Miami Marlins took a few SS's and catchers, so I'm hopeful that at least someone there will work out.
