The luster has fallen off this Miami Marlins pitcher

We were so excited when it seemed that the Miami Marlins had a breakout starting pitcher. I even analyzed his stuff, trying to see what he did so successfully. He seemed to have come out of nowhere, as he was never this good in the Minor Leagues. Sadly, the luster has fallen off as Valente Bellozo just had a pair of poor starts.

Valente Bellozo no longer looks like a breakout Miami Marlins starting pitcher.

Valente Bellozo was never a top prospect. He was never hyped and never looked like someone who would be a difference-making pitcher in the Major Leagues. In AA and AAA for the Miami Marlins this season, he had an unremarkable 4.64 ERA with an impressive 9.8 K/9 and 3.3 BB/9, in 14 games and 66.0 innings pitched.

Bellozo's strikeout rate in the Minor Leagues was pretty impressive, but the results just weren't there. It didn't really look like he was going to be much better in the Major Leagues. The soft-tossing starting pitcher was also pretty bad in 2023 in the Houston Astros system. In A+ and AA that season, he pitched to a 5.55 ERA with 8.6 K/9 and 2.6 BB/9, in 26 games and 110.1 innings pitched.

Valente Bellozo was great in his call-up to the Miami Marlins. Bellozo pitched to a 2.45 ERA/3.53 FIP, with 7.4 K/9 and 2.2 BB/9 in 6 games and 33.0 innings pitched to start his Major League career. This was very impressive and surprising, though there was cause for some alarm with the FIP. There was a lot of doubt as to whether he could keep this up. I thought that even if he wasn't going to be a top of the rotation arm (which I never thought he'd be), he had potential as a mid-rotation arm.

It's unfortunate that the wheels fell of for the young starting pitcher. After a couple poor starts, he's now sitting on a 3.35 ERA/4.95 FIP, with 6.7 K/9 and 3.1 BB/9 in 7 games and 37.2 innings pitched. He has a 3.71 ERA in his last 17.0 innings pitched as well. The FIP however is that of a bottom of the rotation arm. Valente Bellozo will likely not be in the Miami Marlins rotation next season, but maybe he can at least be a decent depth arm.

Next. Marlins make Baltimore look ridiculous. Marlins make Baltimore look ridiculous. dark
