Spring Training has begun and the season is just around the corner. Unfortunately first base is still an issue for the Miami Marlins, with Garrett Cooper locked in to start there. Cooper's health is a serious concern, so it makes a lot of sense for The Fish to bring in some depth in case he gets injured as usual. The hitting philosophy on the team has changed, with contact valued at a premium, which makes the first baseman that I'll be talking about an odd fit, but Luke Voit.

The Miami Marlins should sign Luke Voit for first base depth.

Luke Voit debuted in 2017 with the St. Louis Cardinals and batted .246/.306/.430 with 4 home runs and 18 RBI in 62 games and 114 AB. He was already 26 years old but it looked pretty promising. Voit split 2018 between St. Louis and the New York Yankees, batting an impressive .322/.398/.671 with 15 home runs and 36 RBI in 47 games and 143 AB..

2019 turned into a bit of an interesting season for Luke Voit, as he batted .263/.378/.464 with 21 home runs and 62 RBI in 118 games and 429 AB. He followed that up in the shortened 2020 season with a Major Leagues leading 22 home runs, along with 52 RBI and a .277/.338/.610 batting line in 56 games and 213 AB. In 2021, he batted .239/.328/.437 with 11 home runs and 35 RBI in 68 games and 213 AB. This was the season that started Voit's trend of constantly getting injured.

Luke Voit split 2022 between the San Diego Padres and the Washington Nationals, batting a combined .226/.308/.402 with 9 home runs and 21 RBI in 135 games and 500 AB. The numbers were down across the board and at 31 years old Voit found himself non-tendered by Washington after the season. He's currently a free agent and is looking at a Minor League deal.

Voit isn't a good defender, isn't a good contact hitter and can't seem to stay healthy. Aall of that said, he still has some pop in his bat and is likely to not cost much. I think that he's good option for depth atfirst base for the Miami Marlins.
