It's always important to look at a team's farm system. That's what we of course like to do with the Miami Marlins. The top 100 list has quite a few Marlins players and the farm continues to improve. There is an interesting oversight on the latest MLB top 100 list. For some reason, catcher/first baseman Agustin Ramirez is not on that list. Even MLB.com called it out themselves.
The Miami Marlins have a very good hitting prospect.
Agustin Ramirez is an exciting prospect. He could be a major power bat for the Miami Marlins down the line. In fact, maybe as soon as the 2025 season! Last season in the Minor Leagues, Agustin had a 20/20 season, which is pretty rare for a catcher. Between the single A and AA levels, he hit 25 home runs and stole 22 bases.
Ramirez has ultimately batted .266/.354/.464 throughout his Minor League career. He finished the 2024 season, with a .267/.358/.487 batting line, with 25 home runs and 93 RBI in 126 games and 476 AB. In AAA, to close out the season with The Fish, he batted .262/.358/.447, with 5 home runs and 24 RBI in 39 games and 141 AB.
Agustin Ramirez does have a major flaw however. He's not a good defender, which means that it's unlikely that his future on the team is really behind the plate. It's more likely that he will have to switch to first base. That would be the smart move for him and for the team. If he ends up hitting as he did in the Minors, he will certainly end up as a middle of the order bat with The Fish.
So why isn't the 23 year old on the top 100 MLB prospects list? My guess is as good as yours. He really looks much better than many of the other prospects on the MLB top 100 list. I'm definitely not a fan of that list, when someone who can be a legit star isn't even on the list. He may be a first baseman long-term, but he's still very valuable.
