World Series odds considering Marlins rivals are laughable

Miami Marlins division rivals had an interesting off-season. The best part for the New York Mets was signing right fielder Juan Soto. They then re-signed first baseman Pete Alonso in a steal of a deal. Unfortunately for them, they took some bizarre steps with their rotation. It's that last part that makes me write them off for the 2025 season. MLB.com has a different take.

Bizarre take by MLB.com on the Miami Marlins rival teams.

It will likely not surprise anyone that the Miami Marlins are 29'th out of 30 teams , in World Series winning chanmces according to MLB.com. Sadly, I'm not going to argue that The Fish's chances of getting that job done are certainly not anywhere near the highest. That said, they continue to fall for the same ridiculous concept.

Signing a star player doesn't change much if a team does nothing around the borders. The New York Mets made the playoffs on the last day of the 2024 season. They went on a hot run that ended in the NLCS. A team lucky to be in the playoffs going on a hot run is not unheard of. These teams typically either miss the playoffs or don't go nearly as far in the playoffs the next season.

Case in point: 1998 San Diego Padres, 2000 New York Mets, 2002 Anaheim Angels, 2006 Detroit Tigers, 2007 Colorado Rockies, 2015 New York Mets, 2023 Arizona Diamondbacks...the 2024 Mets barely got in and overall didn't actually get better. The starting pitching is laughably bad and barring massive mid-season upgrades, this team isn't sniffing the playoffs. They're ranked fourth on the MLB.com list. The Philadelphia Phillies are third on the list, which is more believable, though they probably don't have a good enough core to actually go all the way.

The Atlanta Braves are ranked second, and it's more believable to me, though they can't seem to get past Philly in the playoffs. I don't really see an NL East team winning the World Series however. The Los Angeles Dodgers are the clear favorites (first on the list) and I expect the New York Yankees to be good as well (ninth on the list and shockingly below the far worse Baltimore Orioles).
