So long, and thanks for all the Fish

Folks, you have not seen me around much recently since my decision to step down as Editor of Marlin Maniac due to my time constraints. I have been working behind the scenes a bit to help out in the transition to a new Editor, who will debut in that role beginning tomorrow on Marlin Maniac. I’d like for you all to give current Staff Writer Ehsan Kassim a warm welcome as the new Editor of Marlin Maniac. I’m happy to leave the blog in his capable hands, and alongside James C. Etzbach Jr, this site will remain successful. I wish [...]

C.J. Wilson and the Over-hyping of Playoff Numbers

AUTHOR: | IN: Analysis, Marlins, News | COMMENTS: 5 Comments

One of the worst outcomes about the baseball post-season is that players are often turned into to heroes or zeroes based on their play in the post-season. This has happened numerous times in the past. An example of a player being overrated due to their post-season success is former Florida Marlins fan favorite Cody Ross. I am not going to deny it, I was a big fan of Cody Ross when he was tenured with the Marlins. I wanted to see him succeed more then anything else. I was shocked into disbelief when the Marlins traded Ross to the San Francisco Giants [...]

Rumors and Stuff.

AUTHOR: | IN: History, Marlins | COMMENTS: 5 Comments

Being new to the whole sports writer thing, I recently realized that I probably used a good amount of my writing ideas during the season where instead I  should have saved some of those ideas so that I would have something interesting to talk about during the off season.  That and for the first time in months, nothing noteworthy really came out of Miami, at least not in regards to the Marlins anyway.  So, as a result, I was on a little writing vacation last week so for those of you who have been missing my undeniably entertaining wit, I [...]

Hanley being Hanley: Why Hanley is still the Marlins best player

AUTHOR: | IN: Analysis, Marlins, Player Profile | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

I do not know about anyone else, but I am getting very sick of the Hanley Ramirez hate that is making its rounds through Marlins fans right now. It seems that fans have forgotten how good he actually is. Today, my goal is to give everyone a quick refresher on why Hanley Ramirez is still the Florida (Miami) Marlins‘ best player. Over Hanley’s six-year major league career, he has posted these numbers: PA AVG OBP SLG wOBA BABIP WAR 3757 .306 .380 .506 .385 .339 31.1

Welcome to La La Land!

I am truly beginning to believe that the Marlins design team is made up of the people Disney fired for coming to work on a bad acid trip.  I will just leave this here for you this week as proof that God has forsaken the Marlins faithful:   On the plus side: The more alcohol you consume, the better this thing looks, so drink up fellow Marlins fans. Go Marlins!!!!

The 2011 season ended for the Marlins just about two weeks ago. Today, I am going to hand out some awards to Marlins players. Marlins Snarkbox: Free agent fantasies

AUTHOR: | IN: Analysis, Marlins, Media, News, Rants | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Joe Frisaro has his latest inbox up over at the Marlins official website, and so it’s time for me to address some of the concerns that Marlins fans are most interested in. Here comes yet another Snarkbox! Is there a good possibility that the Marlins will try to go after left-hander C.J. Wilson in free agency? If so, how much money would the Marlins be willing to spend on him? – Jonathan V., Pembroke Pines, Fla. Now here’s a fan that’s thinking smart! I’ve yet to reveal my offseason plan for the Marlins, but C.J. Wilson figures to be in [...]

Reality Check

AUTHOR: | IN: Analysis, Marlins, News, Rants | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Every offseason fans of every team get caught up in rumors about their team. Some times these rumors have legs and sometimes they are just what they are, nothing but rumors. Today I want to address something I have been reading the past few weeks and is starting to really bother me. I have been reading all over the internet about Florida Marlins fans thinking that the Marlins can acquire Justin Upton from the Arizona Diamondbacks this offseason. Justin Upton has put up strong MVP numbers this season and is signed at a very reasonable contract for the next few [...]

Marlins Snarkbox: Pujols’s big bat and Guillen’s big mouth

AUTHOR: | IN: Marlins, News, Rants | COMMENTS: None Yet

With the offseason underway for the Marlins, it seems that MLB.com’s Joe Frisaro has returned to his classic inbox pieces where he answers questions from the fans. I’m always a big proponent of answering questions for people as well, so I figured I’d once again take a crack at those questions, with a little snarky flare added when necessary. Let’s take a look at this week’s installment. There is talk that the Marlins will sign big name free agents. They haven’t done so before, will they really do so now? Who might be some of the players they go after? [...]

Playoffs – You Aren’t Going!

AUTHOR: | IN: Marlins, Rants | COMMENTS: None Yet

Well another baseball season has come and gone and allow me to start out by saying that I am in no way comparing the Marlins season to any other teams season this year.  So for you non-Marlins fans reading this don’t act all upset and compare your team’s success, or lack of success, this year to the Marlins.  I am well aware that the Marlins sucked this year and I am not interested in getting into a pissing contest with fans of other teams who are having a hard time accepting reality.  It’s been over a week and you should [...]
