The Marlins unveiled their flashy new uniforms in 2012, with a multitude of vibrant colors that look straight out of South Beach. Their set featured four main looks: white, grey, black, and red-orange jerseys.

As Travis covered the other day, the grey uniforms haven’t been worn in 2 years, but the red-orange look are featured on a weekly basis, despite wide criticism of the look.

Owner Jeffery Loria wanted the Marlins new digs to represent Miami and the excitement and energy he envisioned defining this ball club; a sure turnaround from the bleak black and grey pinstripes from the previous generation.

4). Black Alternate Jerseys

Labeled an “alternate” by the team, this uniform have been worn entirely too often over the past couple of years. I’ve been to 5 Marlin games in the past 3 years, and the team has worn black jerseys four of those times. It feels like the team is ignoring the nicer looking white and grey jerseys, choosing to wear black at home and on the road.

3). Red-Orange Alternate

It’s bright, obnoxious, out there, and I love it. I also hate it, because it gets overused just like the black jerseys. Alternates are supposed to be exciting, because they aren’t supposed to be worn every single week. Apparently, the Marlins either hate their home and away uniforms, they’re just hipsters who chose to ignore the status quos. Either way, the orange is a bit too bold for my taste, and it adds to the lack of team color scheme. If somebody asked me what the Marlins colors’ are, I doubt I could come up with an answer.

2). All White Home Uniform With Orange Cap

I think this look was only used two or three times last year, and that’s a shame. The orange hats really stand out on TV, and the white jerseys are smooth. The white jerseys are one of my personal favorites, and it was really tough to put them in the second spot.

But you’ll understand when you see what’s next.

1). Mystery Jerseys: Aqua

I don’t understand why the team doesn’t wear these jerseys. What says Miami like some aqua blue straight from the ’90s?

They scream Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and I’m pretty sure that’s what Jeffrey Loria is going for. I wouldn’t mind seeing these worn with some white pants, and kicking the black jersey out of the rotation. Sure, it’s way out there, but so are the bright orange disco jerseys. The only place you can find these bad boys? The team store. I’m praying that you’ll be able to find them on the field in the near future.

Grade: A(?)
