Miami bravely battled the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night. While that was going on, the Marlins also made several personnel moves.

Jumbo Diaz

Jumbo Diaz was sent from the  New Orleans Baby Cakes to the GCL Marlins for a rehab assignment. He made the start with the rookie-team, and struck out two in one perfect inning of work. Diaz, a 6’4″, 315 lb. right-hander, previously appeared in the major leagues with the Cincinnati Reds and the Tampa Bay Rays. He signed with the Miami Marlins during this offseason.

Jeff Brigham

In a move that seemed to be a long time coming, RHP Jeff Brigham was promoted from the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp to the Baby Cakes. Brigham was 4-1 with a 1.18 ERA over seven starts for the double-A outfit, with 41 whiffs in 38 innings. He also had a 0.947 WHIP and held opponents to a .200/.255/.255 slashline.

Braxton Lee

Braxton Lee was sent from the Baby Cakes to Jacksonville. Lee started the season with the Miami Marlins, going three-for-17 with eight strikeouts. With New Orleans this season, he’s slashing .202/.276/.245, a far cry from last season. He had led the Southern League with a .309 average between the Shrimp and the Montgomery Biscuits.

Brian Miller

Brian Miller was placed on the temporarily inactive list by Jacksonville. The lefty-batting outfielder has slashed .323/.372/.398 across three levels of minor league ball since getting drafted by the Miami Marlins 13 months ago. I think this guy is going to be on the major league roster by September.

Scott Squier

Scott Squier was assigned to the Shrimp from the Jupiter Hammerheads. A member of the Marlins system since 2014, Squier had struck out nine and allowed just seven baserunners in nine innings at the high-A level. He started the season with the triple-A Cakes.

Brady Puckett

The Hammerheads activated RHP Brady Puckett. The 6’8″ right-hander is 3-4 with a 2.63 ERA, 64 whiffs in 72 innings, and a 1.181 WHIP this season versus three levels of minor league ball. He was Miami’s 15th round pick in the 2017 draft.

Ryan Lillie

Jupiter placed RHP Ryan Lillie on the seven-day DL. Lillie had collected a 6-3 record with a 2.70 ERA over 16 starts this season between the Hammerheads and the Greensboro Grasshoppers. He’s fanned 90 batters in as many innings, and held them to a 1.011 WHIP.

Vincenzo Aiello

More from Marlins News

RHP Vincenzo Aiello was promoted to the Hammerheads from Greensboro. 2017’s 28th round Miami Marlins pick, he’s 3-2 with a 2.52 ERA in 39 relief games overall. He’s got a 0.913 career WHIP, and has saved a dozen games across four minor league levels.

Jameson McGrane

RHP Jameson McGrane was promoted from Batavia to the Grasshoppers. A 26-year-old free agent signing with no prior professional baseball association, he’s held hitters to a 1.091 WHIP for the Batavia Muckdogs and the GCL Marlins.
