You knew at some point there may discussion about other Miami Marlins pitchers besides its improved relievers.

Now it looks like Miami Marlins starter Dan Straily, the veteran leader of the rotation, is drawing interest from contenders looking to make a deal. If he is dealt, it would be a blow to this pitching staff. Straily has given the team five straight quality starts and won the team’s first game of the season half of the 2018 season.

Per mlbtraderumors.com, Straily’s name is now surfacing as a potential trade target. Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe discusses the possibility of Straily exiting Miami after being an outspoken proponent of the changes made to the Marlins organization this offseason.

The feeling is one team might bite on a potential deal, Cafardo explains.

More from Marlins Rumors

"“He’s [Straily] getting some interest from teams looking at a back-end starter,” Cafardo wrote. “The Marlins feel they can get the Red Sox interested. The Marlins aren’t completely enamored by the choices from the Red Sox farm system.”"

While Miami may be one of the teams Boston is looking at to acquire pitching help, there is a feeling because of chess pieces, this is an offer that might not be made or fall apart once offered.

"“There is some sentiment for Blake Swihart but with Christian Vazquez gone until September sometime, the Red Sox may not be able to swing such a deal,” Cafardo stated,"

Straily is one of a handful of pitchers Cafardo talks about in his story who could be part of trade deadline activity.

Miami has a rotation that currently has two rookies – Pablo Lopez and Trevor Richards – in the middle of the pack. Lopez has his most dominant start of the season on Saturday in a 3-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. Richards showed his improvement as a starter, but did not get a decision when the bullpen imploded in a 6-4 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday afternoon.
