Would the Marlins call their old friends the New York Yankees about a deal that could bring them Clint Frazier in return for Jose Urena?

With the Miami Marlins still in the market for a corner outfielder, would the front office call the New York Yankees and inquire about Clint Frazier?

It’s not as far-fetched as some might think, given the Marlins need more hitters and the Yankees are in need of bullpen help. It might also be a way for Derek Jeter to trade away Jose Urena, who could solve the Yankees’ need for long relief.

As FanSided.com’s Rucker Haringey pointed out in his latest story, “5 moves the Yankees still need to make after signing Gerrit Cole,” trading away Frazier makes sense for his current team and Jeter’s for the present and the future.

“In a perfect world, 2020 would be the season where Frazier matures and blossoms into the quality starter that the Yankees have always hoped he would become,” Haringey writes.Unfortunately for the organization, that outcome is just a fantasy at this point in Frazier’s career. The chances of him reaching his physical potential in pinstripes are almost zero.”

More from Marlins Rumors

Enter the Marlins who have added Matt Kemp through a minor league deal with an invitation to Spring Training. I believe the veteran makes the roster. The question is does Kemp have more upside than Frazier and wouldn’t adding both hitters to the roster bolster the Marlins lack of power?

At 25-years-old Frazier fits the profile of what the Marlins are looking to build with as the foundation is now set in Miami.

The chance to move Urena also helps the Marlins are there are too many arms in the minors who are caught in no-man’s land. Urena started his journey with the Marlins in the bullpen, was the team’s Opening Day starter the past two seasons and now is considered a reliever once again with no real position to play.

“The good news is that Frazier can still be billed as a quality corner-outfield starter to other teams,” Haringey added. “The Yankees aren’t going to receive a massive return for him in a trade, but {Yankees GM Brian] Cashman should be able to extract a quality piece or two from the right franchise.”

Frazier belted 12 home runs with 38 RBI and hit .267 for the 2019 season in 69 games.
The Yankees may want a top-100 prospect in return for their player, but Jeter’s relationship with Cashman and the Yankees might be strong enough that the two sides could work out a mutually-beneficial deal.
