Bad news for former Miami Marlins pitcher

Do you remember this arguably controversial trade? It's arguable that the trade never should've happened at the end of the day. I'm talking about the trade when then Miami Marlins GM essentially shipped starting pitcher Pablo Lopez to the Minnesota Twins for second baseman Luis Arraez. Unfortunately Pablo is once again injured, and that hurts the already weak Minnesota Twins team.

Former Miami Marlins starting pitcher Pablo Lopez is injured again.

I feel like I have to write another article about that trade. In the meantime, the former fan favorite Miami Marlins starting pitcher is no longer here. Pablo was pretty good for the Minnesota Twins last season, pitching to a 4.08 ERA/3.65 FIP, with 9.6 K/9 and 2.0 BB/9 in 32 games and 185.1 innings pitched. The ERA wasn't that good, but he showed strikeout potential and great results otherwise.

Lopez has been a foundational piece for Minnesota, and without him it's hard to see the already struggling team making the playoffs, let alone winning the American League Central division. Pablo currently has a grade one hamstring strain. That's actually not that bad of an injury, and means that he will probably be back sooner rather than later.

The one problem throughout Pablo's Major League career has been his propensity to get injured. He was often injured during his Miami Marlins tenure, which left us wondering if he would ever pitch a full season for the team. In fact, he only did it once back in 2022, right before the trade. That season he pitched to a 3.75 ERA/3.71 FIP, with 8.7 K/9 and 2.7 BB/9 in 32 games and 180.0 innings pitched. He was worth 3.0 WAR for that season.

I'm hoping that Lopez will be back soon, as it's frustrating to see a talented player spend time on the injured list. It's good that this isn't a serious injury, but an injury is still an injury. In the meantime, Minnesota will try to salvage what already looks to be a lost season for the team. It's a shame that Pablo is no longer on The Fish.
