Do you remember when Peter Bendix made this big trade with the New York Yankees? Do you remember how Jazz Chisholm Jr. played for the Miami Marlins? There are three reasons why that trade ultimately made sense. The passionate slugger has already been busy making an impact by making his passion widely known. This time it was about a questionable strikeout call that happened during a recent game.
Former Miami Marlins 2B and CF Jazz Chisholm Jr. is back in the news.
So what did Jazz Chisholm Jr. do? Last Thursday, the New York Yankees (his current team) played the Tampa Bay Rays. The Bronx Bombers won that game 6-3, but the issue was Jazz's strikeout called by the home plate umpire John Bacon. Jazz didn't agree with that call to say the least. He had a very passionate reaction to his seventh inning strikeout, which ultimately led to him being ejected from the game.
Jazz didn't stop there. The former Miami Marlins fan favorite made now deleted tweets calling out the umpire after the game! This is typical Jazz and honestly I have no problem with it. I like when playerds are honest and let us know how they really feel. It's better than when players say what they're "supposed to" say. That's boring and we don't know what they really mean.
Jazz said this after the game:
"I don’t care. I did what I did. I can live up to my responsibilities. It doesn’t matter to me.... We’re ballplayers. We’re in the heat of the moment. We want to win every at-bat, we want to win every pitch. When you work that hard, and it doesn’t go your way, and you really think it’s a ball, you get fired up. And I’m very passionate about my game.”
Can you see the passion?! It's honestly both refreshing and exciting to hear. Yankees manager Aaron Boone basically defended Jazz, though he was careful not to upset anyone with his comments, or start any type of feud with the umpires. Like me, he supports Jazz's passion and understands the feeling of being wronged at an at-bat. I still wish he was on the Miami Marlins.
