Do you remember the big trade from last season? I'm talking about the one where the Miami Marlins traded 2B Luis Arraez to the San Diego Padres. Another later trade, saw The Fish trade CF Jazz Chisholm Jr. to the New York Yankees. Now it appears that the polarizing fan favorite can move on to a new team for the 2025 season.

Will former Miami Marlins hitter Luis Arraez move to a new team again?

It's not surprising why so many fans, including those of the Miami Marlins are surprised that Luis Arraez has been traded so much. He went from the Minnesota Twins to The Fish prior to the 2023 season. He was then moved to the San Diego Padres in the beginning of the 2024 season, as the team was very quickly not going anywhere near the playoffs.

There was a lot of fan outrage over the return for Arraez, despite multiple reports stating that he had little value around the Major Leagues. It's really not surprising why he did, while it's obvious that he may be the best contact hitter in the Majors, he really isn't an asset in any other area.

It's a bit frustrating to me, that many fans focus so much on his contact ability, that they ignore everything else. The fact is that he has no power or speed. He's also a terrible defender, who San Diego puts at DH when everyone on their team is healthy. A DH with no power is a really bizarre proposition in any era.

The fact is as I already stated before, if his contact goes than so does his entire value. His contact already declined in 2024 and he was worth a below average 1.0 WAR. It appears that the New York Yankees are eyeing Arraez as a potential option at second base for themselves. They need one now, and may be willing to swallow the bad defense for one season. He shouldn't cost much, and San Diego is trying to shed salary. We'll see if this trade will actually go down before the season begins.
