The Miami Marlins agreed to deals with all of the team's arb-eligible players. The Fish also have to deal with a major injury in the rotation. We now have more news on San Diego Padres DH Luis Arraez and both his raise in arbitration, and we now know if he's going to be traded to the New York Yankees after all.

News on former Miami Marlins hitter Luis Arraez

Many Miami Marlins fans miss Luis Arraez. The elite contact hitter split the 2024 season between The Fish and the San Diego Padres. He batted .314/.346/.392, with 4 home runs and 46 RBI in 150 games and 637 AB. He had a below average 1.0 WAR for his performance. He's now received a raise to $14 million for the 2025 season. San Diego have been rumored to be shopping him to save money, however a trade is yet to materialize.

The New York Yankees need a second baseman, but it certainly doesn't look like Luis Arraez is the answer. The Bronx Bombers are probably not big fans of his defense, and that is probably a big reason why they don't seem to have much interest in acquiring him after all. It's important to point out, that there is a reason why he is now a DH. He's just not defensively a fit at second base.

If the Bronx Bombers end up not acquiring Arraez as it looks like, he will probably end up staying in San Diego for one more season. I'm interested in seeing how much he will make as a free agent after the season. With his value supposedly not high around front offices, I'm curious how many years and dollars he will actually make. This should really clear things up for many fans about him as well.

My guess is that Luis Arraez will probably get a 4 year deal. I'm not sure how much he will make per season though. He might make $12-13 million or so just based on the bat, but I'm still not sure, and a lot will depend on his 2025 performance. The Miami Marlins and Peter Bendix won't be bringing him back.
