How the Miami Marlins made a decision on the new manager
The biggest storyline going into this off-season for the Miami Marlins was the search for a manager. Now that that's done, I'm hoping that there will be some additions to improve the playing side of things. In the meantime, The Fish have officially welcomed new manager Clayton McCullough to the team. He has the right attitude and just won the World Series with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Clayton McCullough is the new manager of the Miami Marlins.
It was important that the next Miami Marlins manager would have the right attitiude. It was also important that he would have at least some winning experience. Clayton McCullough has never managed at the Major League level before. Bruce Sherman however believes in him and more importantly, he said that he believes in McCullough and Peter Bendix building a sustainable winning team. He said that "tens of millions of dollars" are being invested in the team's front office and cutting-edge technology.
I really hope that Sherman is serious this time. In the meantime, back to McCullough's introductory press conference. The qualities that impressed Bendix and Sherman are that McCullough has a desire to win, has humility and enthusiasm, and that he is a "genuine" person. Those qualities make him stand out as a natural leader. Peter Bendix said that about him:
“I think it's unusual to find somebody with a combination of positive traits that Clayton has, and for those to align so perfectly with my vision, with Bruce's vision, with what sold me here a year ago: the importance of people, the importance of culture, the importance of actually caring for those around you, trying to make them better, and how all of those things loop directly to winning, directly to players getting better. He had those beliefs before we spoke. He didn't know that that was our vision as well. And so for that to align so perfectly, that's why he's our manager.”
I'm hoping that Clayton McCullough brings this winning atmosphere to the Miami Marlins. It's my dream to see The Fish as a consistently winning team going forward.
