Interesting news on outgoing Marlins manager
The rumor going around since the Miami Marlins parted ways with manager Skip Schumaker, has been that The Fish didn't want him back. Many fans were outraged that Skip was let go and saw Peter Bendix and the rest of the team's management as basically "ungrateful", and ready to move on from the 2023 NL Manager of the Year. It appears that it may not be the case after all.
The Miami Marlins didn't want to lose manager Skip Schumaker.
Many fans were under the impression that the Miami Marlins wanted Skip Schumaker gone. It did come out over time that Skip himself asked for his option for next season to be removed. It also later came out that he wasn't happy with the team over how Kim Ng ultimately left the team. It seems that Skip has already been set on leaving since Ng left the team.
Reports are now indicating that The Fish offered Skip an extension but that he declined it. Assuming that these reports are true, it certainly looks like the team didn't actually want him to leave at all. Peter Bendix clearly wasn't trying to run Skip out of town as some fans were sure of.
Personally, I'm very disappointed that Skip Schumaker chose to give up on the team and the players. Most importantly on the fans. Where's the loyalty? The Marlins didn't want him gone, so why not just stay on the team and continue working with the players. This lack of loyalty is really frustrating and upsetting for me to see. I don't really see any good excuse for it either.
The Miami Marlins had a ton of pitching injuries in 2024. It was obviously a flukey season and not some example of the team's actual talent level. Next season should be better. I don't understand why Skip couldn't just stay one more year and stay loyal to the players and the fanbase. Don't feel bad about him leaving or think that he's making the right decision. He's giving up on all of us and the team that gave him his first Major League managing opportunity. He's proving that he doesn't have the right character to manage The Fish.
