The Miami Marlins are not expecting to have a good season. Spring Training is filled with positional battles, but also injuries to players that can affect the entire season. The latest injury affects The Fish's RF Jesus Sanchez, who is now out for at least four weeks with an oblique strain.
Miami Marlins RF Jesus Sanchez is injured for a while.
Jesus Sanchez was supposed to have a big year for the Miami Marlins in 2025. It was at least a hope. Sanchez batted .252/.313/.417, with 18 home runs and 64 RBI in 149 games and 489 AB. He was worth 0.7 WAR for that unspectacular production. There was some hope due to his 92.3 Exit Velocity.
I was definitely hoping to see some more from Jesus this season, but it certainly looks like he will at the very least not play all of it. Manager Clayton McCullough had some things to say about the injury:
“That’s one of those areas and things that are kind of tricky to nail down. Category one, you’re looking at [a return], probably optimistically…like a month from now,”
This doesn't look very promising and sounds as if he might be out for a considerable amount of time. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw him miss a few month, as oblique strains are notoriously tricky to recover from. I'm just hoping that it won't take much longer than the current projected timeline.
Jesus Sanchez is a former top 100 prospect who deserves to have one full season, where he finally delivers and shows us what he can actually do. I still imagine that there's a breakout season in him, but sadly it may not necessarily happen this season. The Fish will certainly have multiple outfielders filling in for Sanchez in the meantime. He will also need some time in the Minor Leagues to get himself back on track.
I'm hoping that Jesus Sanchez will return to the Miami Marlins in the near future and that it won't take too long for him to come back. Let's wish him the best.
