I made it pretty clear that I'm not a big fan of the Philadelphia Phillies having a contending roster in place. I just don't buy them having a core that can win the World Series. The Miami Marlins may have to worry about their prospects, but that's the biggest concern when it comes to this aging Philly squad going forward. We now have more information on this situation.
Miami Marlins rivals have some serious OF issues at this time.
The Philadelphia Phillies had the second best record in the National League and probably should've done better overall. The OF is currently their biggest issue other than the bullpen. It's pretty clear that it's a mess. Brandon Marsh is likely staying on the team, though you can argue that he's not a solid starter. He batted .249/.328/.419, with 16 home runs and 60 RBI in 135 games and 418 AB. He was worth 3.1 WAR.
Marsh is a good defender, so there should be a place for him on the team, but it's pretty obvious that offensively he clearly leaves a lot to be desired. Another OF that is questionable as a starter is of course CF Johan Rojas. Rojas is all defense and not much else. He batted just .243/.279/.322 with 3 home runs and 32 RBI, in 120 games and 338 AB. Such dreadful offesnive production really makes me wonder if they truly want him to start going forward.
The Phillies would love to trade RF Nick Castellanos, but his contract and poor production surely make it a very difficult proposition to truly undertake. It's doubtful that Philly will end up signing Juan Soto if we're being honest. They're not even listed as one of the top favorites for him. They're also apparently against moving Bryce Harper back to the OF. I don't get why, as that would be easy to do, and allow them to pursue first base help, which would be much easier for them to find.
It remains to be seen how Philly will do this off-season, but if they don't fix their OF, they're only helping the Miami Marlins, which is a good thing for us.
