It's been an interesting season for the Miami Marlins this season. A lot of hope for the future at this point. It's not all good news however as LF Griffin Conine is now out with an injury, for potentially the rest of the season. This is sad news for the team and disappointing for the player, whose legendary father was inducted into The Fish's Hall of Fame.

Miami Marlins LF Griffin Conine is now injured.

Griffin Conine has been a revelation for the Miami Marlins this season. He debuted last season and batted .268/.326/.451, with 3 home runs and 12 RBI in 30 games and 82 AB. He was worth 0.7 WAR for that performance. The late bloomer (he was 26 last season) earned a starting role with the team this season.

Peter Bendix had a plan for Conine this season. The left-handed hitter batted an improved .281/.352/.438, with a home run and 7 RBI in 20 games and 64 AB. He was worth 0.3 WAR before an unfortunate shoulder surgery that may have ended his season prematurely. The injury is to his left shoulder and he will visit a specialist today. It will then be determined the type of surgery that he will need.

There's sadly a strong possibility that Griffin Conine will miss the rest of the season. It of course depends on the type of surgery that he will be required to undergo. It's a terrible situation, but let's hope that Conine recovers as soon as possible. Conine's health should be the priority and the more important concern than anything else about his season.

I'm interested to see how he will fit in in the team's crowded OF mix upon his return. He could end up getting his old starting job in left field, or he might have to settle for being a bench bat. Either way, I fully expect him to get the chance to contribute in some way. He definitely deserves the opportunity and so I hope that the surgery isn't too serious, and that he's back healthy and productive as soon as he can.
