Marlins rivals continue making bizarre mistakes

It seems all about the rival NL East teams, besides the Miami Marlins. The Fish seem to be just waiting things out, though with everyone that's coming back from injury next season, things are looking up in my opinion. Speaking of rivals, the New York Mets just signed Frankie Montas for their rotation. I don't like the move for them as he's very injury-prone. There's more news however.

Miami Marlins division rivals have an odd off-season strategy.

Steve Cohen is a great owner, as he's willing to spend a lot on the New York Mets. It's clear that he wants to win, but I don't really understand what David Stearns is thinking. With 3/5 of the Mets rotation hitting free agency and a need for an ace, it makes sense for the Mets to use their money in pursuit of the top free agents on the market.

Strangely, the Mets seem to be going after injury-prone starters instead of the top names on the free agent market. I don't really understand why. They can afford the top names, so why do they settle for the likes of Frankie Montas? A pitcher who in his 9 seasons in the Major Leagues, has only been able to pitch in a 100+ innings in a season three times. He only pitched in over 150 innings in a season twice.

Now they're apparently after Walker Buehler. Buehler showed some nice postseason heroics, but his season has been a mess. He pitched to a 5.38 ERA/5.54 FIP, with 7.6 K/9 and 3.3 BB/9 in 16 games and 75.1 innings pitched. He missed all of the 2023 season, and going back to 2022, he has pitched to a 4.75 ERA/4.74 FIP, with 7.8 K/9 and 2.9 BB/9 in 28 games and 140.1 innings pitched.

Of course, Buehler was better before and showed some Cy Young caliber stuff. In 2021, he pitched to a 2.47 ERA/3.16 FIP, with 9.2 K/9 and 2.3 BB/9 in 33 games and 207.2 innings pitched. That was an outstanding performance, but that was three years ago. I don't understand why the Mets are stockpiling on arms that they can't count on for the whole season. These signings are good for the Miami Marlins however, as the Mets are making bad moves.
