The Miami Marlins are headed for a bad season. It's unfortunate considering just two years ago, The Fish were in the playoffs. Now, we're stuck in another unwanted rebuild. I have hope that this time we'll have a sustainably winning team. There's some things that we also hope that The Fish will consider doing. At least there will be some good promotions given out this season.
There's an interesting idea that the Miami Marlins should do.
Fan interaction should be a priority for the Miami Marlins. Constant disappointing seasons are not a good way to maintain and build a fanbase. The New York Mets of all teams have a pretty good idea about that. Of course the situation is a bit different. Unlike The Fish's principal owner Bruce Sherman (who happens to be the owner with the lowest net worth in the Majors), Mets owner Steve Cohen is actually the richest owner in the Majors Leagues.
The difference is also that The Fish have the entire Miami market to themselves. In comparison, the Mets are in permanent secondary position to the New York Yankees. As someone who lived in New York City for years at one point in my life, the Mets are not popular at all, and would likely need to win multiple World Series to even be relevant at this point. Still, they have the right idea to build a fanbase.
The Mets are putting a type of store in one of the busiest centers in the city. It's described on MLB.com as this:
Mets House will feature themed activities, exclusive merchandise, ongoing surprise experiences, including giveaways and special gifts with purchase, and other interactive elements, creating a vibrant and memorable atmosphere for all who visit. Mets fans can also enjoy exclusive, in-store only deals on Mets regular season tickets, including no fees on all tickets purchased at Mets House.
This sounds like a great idea. It would give the fans a chance to interact more with the team, receive discounts and feel more included. Can you imagine if the Miami Marlins opened something like this in say Brickell? Or by the Bayside Marketplace? Bruce Sherman really needs to do more to involve the fans and more importantly be more transparent.
