Could the unthinkable happen this season? The Miami Marlins are doing much better than expected this season, though it's hard to honestly say that the team is likely to make the playoffs. It's still much more of a possibility than it was before the season even started. It's been an interesting season so far, though it of course just started. Fangraphs has recently revealed their playoff odds for the season.
The Miami Marlins are being disrespected by Fangraphs.
It's early in the season, but the Miami Marlins have proved to be a better team than expected. This means that while the playoffs are not really an expected or maybe even a realistic result, it's still possible. The Fish are still not even at full strength. Once everyone is healthy, you have to wonder how good the team might be.
The Philadelphia Phillies are the likely division winners at this point, and the team is currently at 79.6% playoff odds. That seems pretty believable to me as I would put them as the favorites to win the NL East. The New York Mets are second at 71.5% to make the playoffs. I find that laughable based on the fact that they only made the playoffs on the last day of last season, and have worse pitching this season. They had a nice start to the season, but should be at 40% at best.
The Atlanta Braves are next at 65.9%, which is also bizarre to me. They did look like a division winning team before the season started, but they need quite a turnaround to make the playoffs at this point. The Washington Nationals are at 1.8% which seems pretty believable to me. They're clearly not a playoff team.
The Miami Marlins are at 1.2%, which is way too low. It should be at 20% at this point. It's bizarre that the percentage is so low for The Fish. It really seems that Fangraphs is too down on the team. I hope that this changes, and that The Fish's percentage of making the playoffs rises as the season goes on.
