The overhaul of the Miami Marlins coaching staff under Peter Bendix continues. As we're waiting for some real rumors about the team's off-season targets and know about the expected signings, let's see what the overhaul brought in next. I'm talking about the new pitching coach Daniel Moskos. I'm hoping that Moskos does a good job, but are you wondering who he even is?
The Miami Marlins have a new pitching coach.
Daniel Moskos is apparently from the so-called "Driveline Baseball pipeline". He's been trained at utilizing the latest technology. It's clear to me that using the latest technology has been a priority for Peter Bendix and the new-look Miami Marlins. It's certainly a good start when we find out more about the new pitching coach. He's got some big shoes to fill, as Mel Stottlemyre Jr. was the previous pitching coach.
Moskos is a former Major League pitcher, who was a first round pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates back in 2007. He actually made his Major League debut in the 2011 season. He actually only pitched in that one season. He pitched to a 2.96 ERA/3.23 FIP, with just 4.1 K/9 and 3.3 BB/9. He did all of this in 31 games and 24.1 innings pitched.
I'm actually a bit surprised that it was his only season in the Majors. He spent the rest of his career in the Minor Leagues, pitching for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Pittsburgh Pirates, the San Diego Padres and the Chicago White Sox. He also pitched in both Mexico and Japan.
Daniel Moskos retired after the 2018 season and immediately turned to coaching as the next phase of his career. He was a pitching coach for the New York Yankees, in their Minor League system. He also was an assistant pitching coach for the Chicago Cubs at the Major League level.
I'm not sure how he'll do for the Miami Marlins, but I certainly hope that he'll do a good job. As usual in these cases, time will give us an answer to that question of course. In the meantime, we'll just wait. Happy Thanksgiving!
