It's not always fun to be a Miami Marlins fan. That is of course an understatement. The team hasn't truly been competitive since winning the World Series in 2003 and the following two seasons. The Fish did make the playoffs in 2020 and 2023, but the team was not expected to make a deep run and was eliminated early. The biggest problem with the team is that there is no transparency from management.

It's time for the Miami Marlins management to step up for the fans.

"Honesty is the best policy" is a cliche' quote that actually makes sense here. The history of the Miami Marlins is tainted by constant needless rebuilds and terrible trades. Bruce Sherman has made it clear that he wants to build a sustainably winning team. What's left unsaid is that he almost certainly plans to do it the Tampa Bay Rays way, without spending much money.

The sudden rebuild after making the playoffs in 2023 didn't build much trust with the fanbase. I understand the logic in doing that, as the team built by Kim Ng really wasn't sustainably good. The farm declined rapidly as well. Once Peter Bendix took over, it should've been made clear to the fans that a rebuild was on the way. A timeline of contention has to be revealed as well. Saying that the team will be active in free agency, and then doing the poosite is simply a bad look.

The biggest test will happen at the Trade Deadline, when ace Sandy Alcantara will likely be traded. Sandy is a Miami Marlins cornerstone who is the face of the team. He's controlled through the 2027 season at affordable $17.3 million salaries for 2025 and 2026. There is a $21 million team option on him for the 2027 season. Giving him an extension or at least keeping him throughout is absolutely what the fanbase wants. Sandy's starts are events. I remember specifically buying tickets for games that he started back in 2023.

Miami Marlins management needs to be transparent with the fans and should not trade Sandy Alcantara.
