The Miami Marlins have a middle of the order bat breaking out in first baseman Matt Mervis. As The Fish are trying to improve the run differential, it's a good idea to keep making sure that the lineup is always solid. Unfortunately, there is an issue in the lineup right now. That problem is DH Jonah Bride. It might start to make sense for The Fish to move on from him?
Should Jonah Bride be out of the Miami Marlins lineup?
Jonah Bride was an interesting addition to the Miami Marlins last season. He batted .276/.357/.461, with 11 home runs and 39 RBI in 71 games and 232 AB. He was worth 0.8 WAR. That was a very promising debut with the team, he wasn't as good with the Oakland Athletics in 2022 and 2023. He batted .192/.296/.232 in 98 games and 250 AB. He hit 1 home run, drove in 13 RBI and was worth -0.4 WAR.
The 29 year old has been awful so far this season. He's currently batting .100/.200/.100, with 0 home runs and 2 RBI, in 12 games and 40 AB. He's been worth a terrible -0.5 WAR so far. Will he turn his season around? It is a small sample size after all. Well, he has an 84.5 Exit Velocity. That's actually lower than his career 86.9 mark. He has a .160 BABIP, which is worse than his career mark of 86.9.
The BABIP should go up along with his production, but his track record is really not very promising. It might not be a bad idea to just move on from him at this point. Someone else could potentially provide more production. That someone else could be acquired, or on the team already. Sometimes all that is needed is giving someone a serious real shot to play daily and show what he has to offer. Matt Mervis is of course a perfect example of that logic.
What do you think should happen with him? Should the Miami Marlins move on from him? It's definitely an interesting question here. I would give him a very short leash at this time.
